Propsals.

I decided on two of the ideas that I want to explore further from what I have jotted down on the quick mind map I produced.

One of my keen interests and something I have strong passion for is nature - a bit fine arty; Specifically plants and flowers. I just love the colours of different types of flowers - flowers are a life form of their own; yet its not something that we tend to think about after all, they're just flowers!

Here is the proposal I have written for my idea of flowers and plants:

Proposal

Working Title: Our connection with nature: flowers and plants.

Into/Overview:
For this assignment I want to look at the life of flowers and plants, I want to capture their life within a photograph; whether they be dead or alive I feel there is something interesting about flowers and plants due to how when the seasons change, flowers and plants come and go. I want to capture their vibrant colours and shapes; using different focal points and focal lengths to produce interesting, effective, striking and abstract photographs that will show the life of the flowers and plants through visually interesting images.

Rationale:
I want to challenge myself to capture visually interesting and effective photographs, which will catch people’s eye’ boosting their curiosity and making them want to view more of my photographs that explore the theme of the life of flowers and plants.

I feel that maybe the use of different lenses of different focal lengths will also help me to capture different types of photographs exploring this theme; allowing me to capture a variety of different photographs even though all I am looking at are flowers and plants.

Aims and Objectives:
My intentions with this assignment is to photographs different types of plants and flowers; using different angles, focal points and  focal length to explore and show the connections that we have with flowers, as they are a form of live; and the connection we have with nature. I am going to explore the different colours and shapes of flowers and plants; as they are visually appealing to us. I want to show that they are interesting and that they are a life form of their own; to do this I need to take a lot of different photographs of flowers and plants.

Intended Outcomes:
I intend to produce a set of images that are quite vibrant, abstract, interesting and effective when people look at them. I will do this by looking at and photographing lots of different types of plants and flowers, enabling my to pick out the most successful and effective photographs that work best to show the ideas that I have and will easily portray the ideas to the viewer; simply through the photograph.

Target Audience:
My target audience for this assignment is people from the age of 15 onwards. This is because even though I want people to be drawn in by the colours and compositions of the photographs that I am going to take, I also want them to understand what it is that they are seeing and what it is that I have photographed.

Proposal

Working Title: A Floral Journey.

Into/Overview:
For this assignment I want to look at the life of flowers and plants, I want to capture their life within a photograph; whether they be dead or alive I feel there is something interesting about flowers and plants due to how when the seasons change, flowers and plants come and go. I want to capture their vibrant colours and shapes; I feel there are a few different ways that I could approach this, I want to experiment with different things and push my own boundaries and verge into areas that I haven’t necessarily focused on before. I want to create visually interesting images for people to look at; ones that are going to make the think a bit more about what they are seeing.

Rationale:
I want to challenge myself to capture visually interesting and effective photographs, which will catch people’s eye’ boosting their curiosity and making them want to view more of my photographs that explore the theme of the life of flowers and plants. As well as taking normal photographs I want to experiment with things such as using the scanner to scan in leaves / flowers and using Photoshop to see what interesting and different things I can come up with. I feel that maybe taking the flowers out of context and creating something unusual with them could be quite interesting. I want to see if I can find new and unusual ways of creating effective photos of flowers and plants.

Aims and Objectives:
My intentions with this assignment is to produce images of flowers and plants, exploring the use of normal photographs, scanning and editing to see what different things I can produce that make us view flowers and plants differently. I am going to explore the different colours and shapes of flowers and plants; as they are visually appealing to us. I want to show that they are interesting and that they are a life form of their own; to do this I need to take a lot of different photographs and produce numerous edits.

Initial References:

Another of the ideas that I think is interesting from the quick mind map I produced is abandoned objects/buildings.
This seems like something that could be quite interesting to explore, even though its not something I have such a strong passion and interest in; it could be interesting and different to develop on.

Here is the proposal I have written for this idea of documenting abandoned areas and things:

Proposal

Working Title: Abandoned within the city

Into/Overview:
For this assignment I want to look at areas and items/ objects that are within the city of Manchester; finding things that have been abandoned and are derelict and decaying. I want to show how people come and go and areas/ scenes change throughout time. Exploring both black and white and colour photographs could be quite interesting and creates different impacts; therefore this is something that would be good to experiment with. I want to be able to find unusual things within the city which aren’t really supposed to be out on the streets; things that have been left behind.

Rationale:
Expanding on and improving an assignment that I have already worked on; I want to challenge myself even more than I did previously to get photographs with big impacts. Photographs showing areas of the city that are abandoned and derelict as well as objects and items such as furniture that have been left outside – not really where they are supposed to be. I think that a good place to get some interesting photographs and to help me get an interesting starting point using the theme of abandonment would be to go to some scrap yards and things similar to find abandoned objects.

Aims and Objectives:

Intended Outcomes:
I want to produce a set of photographs suitable for a book; that document areas, buildings, items and objects within the city of Manchester that are abandoned. I want to do this to get a sense of the things we tend to miss and don’t pay a lot of attention to as they don’t seen to stand out nor do that have any significance or importance within out lives.

Target Audience:
The audience that I am targeting with this assignment is people from the age of fifteen onwards. I just feel that people from the age of fifteen will have a better understanding of what I am trying to say within my photographs. I want them to impact people and draw them in; making them notice things that have been abandoned and are derelict within their city a bit more – allowing them to see things differently than they did before.

When we return to uni after the Easter holidays I am going to present these two ideas to my tutor' and class mates; providing my with some feedback that will help my pinpoint my ideas a lot more.
